Add the players, spin the bottle, see who it points to.

A virtual bottle that picks who goes next

This spin the bottle tool is a friendly party picker. Type the players’ names and they appear in a circle around a bottle. Spin it, and the bottle slows down and points at one person. That player goes next: they answer a question, take a turn or choose the next game. There is no real bottle to knock over, no wobbly table, and no arguing over whether it pointed at you or your neighbor.

How to use spin the bottle

  1. Type the players in the box, one per line. You can have 2 to 16.
  2. The names arrange themselves around the circle, starting at the top and going clockwise.
  3. Tap the bottle or press Spin.
  4. The bottle spins for a few seconds and stops. The chosen name lights up, and the line below says “It points to” followed by the name.
  5. Spin again for the next round.

Edit the list at any time. The circle updates as you type, so a late arrival can join between rounds, and someone who heads home can be removed without starting over.

Ways to play

Truth or dare

Spin to pick a player, then they choose truth or dare. If you need ideas, the truth or dare questions tool has them ready. Keep the questions friendly for the group in the room.

Question rounds

Pair the bottle with any set of questions, like would you rather or get to know you prompts. The bottle decides who answers, so the quiet guests get a turn too.

Turn order for games

Spin to choose who starts a board game, who draws first in a drawing game, or who acts out the next charade.

Classrooms and small groups

A teacher can add a reading group and spin to choose who reads the next paragraph or presents first. Up to 16 names fit, which suits small groups and circle time.

Chores and small choices

Who takes out the trash, sets the table or picks tonight’s movie? Spin and let the bottle settle it.

Tips for a smooth game

  • Short names read best around the circle, especially on a phone. First names or nicknames work well.
  • Decide before you start what happens if the bottle points at the spinner. Most groups simply spin again.
  • Let the person who was picked spin next. It keeps the game moving without anyone keeping track.
  • For a group larger than 16, use the random name picker instead.

Fair spins

The player is chosen with your browser’s cryptographic random generator (crypto.getRandomValues) before the bottle moves. The spin and its slow finish only reveal the result. Each player in the circle has the same chance on every spin, no matter where they sit or where the bottle started.

Frequently asked questions

How many players can I add?

Between 2 and 16, one name per line. Any names after the 16th line are left off the circle.

Does everyone have the same chance?

Yes. The player is chosen with the browser's cryptographic random generator before the bottle starts turning, and each name in the circle has an equal chance.

Can the bottle point at the person who spun it?

Yes. The bottle can point at anyone in the circle. If your group would rather skip the spinner, agree up front to spin again when that happens.

How do I use it for truth or dare?

Spin to choose who goes next, then that player picks truth or dare. The truth or dare questions tool can supply a random question or challenge.

Is it suitable for kids?

Yes. Here the bottle simply picks a player, and what happens next is up to your group. It works well for family games like charades, trivia or choosing whose turn it is.

Will it remember our player list?

Yes. The names are saved in this browser's local storage, so the same group is ready the next time you open the page.
