What the yes or no wheel does

Some questions do not need a pros and cons list. Should we order in tonight? Do I go for a run before work? This yes or no wheel gives you a random answer in a few seconds, so you can stop going back and forth. It is free, needs no sign up, and runs in the browser on a phone or a computer.

The wheel has green Yes slices and red No slices. You can add a yellow Maybe if you want a third outcome. Every answer has the same chance.

    How to use it

    1. Settle on the exact question. The wheel works best when yes and no both lead to something clear.
    2. Press Spin in the center of the wheel. You can also click the wheel itself or press Ctrl + Enter.
    3. Wait for it to stop. The slice at the pointer on the right side is your answer, and a dialog spells it out under “The answer is”.
    4. Choose Done to close the dialog, or Spin again if you are playing best of three.

    Options on this wheel

    Two answers or three

In the Options tab, under Answers, pick “Yes or No” or “Yes, No or Maybe”. The first is a coin flip: 50 percent each. The second splits the wheel three ways, so each answer has a one in three chance.

    Slices of each answer

A slider sets how many slices each answer gets, from 1 to 8. The default is 3. This changes the look and nothing else. Three Yes slices and three No slices are still an even split.

    Spin time, sound and confetti

In the Settings tab you can set the spin to last from 1 to 30 seconds and choose a Slow, Normal or Fast speed. A long spin builds tension in front of a group. If you get impatient, press the button again while the wheel turns. It becomes a Stop button, and the answer is still the one drawn at the start. Sound and confetti each have their own switch, the speaker button under the wheel mutes it in one tap, and the full screen button helps when you show the wheel on a TV or projector.

    The scoreboard

Big colored boxes at the top of the Options tab count every Yes and No, plus Maybe when that answer is on. That makes best of three or best of five easy to track. The counts are saved in your browser, so they are still there on your next visit. Press Reset counts to start from zero.

The Results tab lists every spin in order. You can copy the list, download it as a CSV file or an image, or clear it.

Good uses for a yes or no wheel

    • Small daily choices. Dessert or no dessert, one more episode or bed, gym now or later.
    • Breaking a deadlock. When two people have argued a minor point to a standstill, agree to accept the spin before anyone presses the button.
    • Party and classroom games. Ask the group a silly question, have everyone guess, then spin to see who called it.
    • Checking your gut. If the wheel says no and you feel let down, you have learned what you wanted.

Keep it to low-stakes questions. A random answer is no help with health, money or legal decisions.

    Is the answer really random?

Yes. The result is drawn with your browser’s cryptographic random generator before the animation begins, and the wheel then turns until it reaches that slice. When or how you click makes no difference. Each spin is independent, so three No answers in a row is ordinary luck and does not mean the wheel is stuck.

When you need more than two answers

If your decision has several options, type them into the picker wheel on the homepage and spin that one. If the real question is what to have for dinner, the food picker wheel already has meal lists loaded.

    Frequently asked questions

Is the yes or no wheel really random?

Yes. The answer is drawn with your browser's cryptographic random generator before the wheel starts turning, and the animation then lands on that slice. In the two-answer mode, Yes and No each have a 50 percent chance.

Can I add a maybe option?

Yes. Under Answers in the Options tab, choose 'Yes, No or Maybe'. The wheel then has three answers and each one has a one in three chance.

Does adding more slices change the odds?

No. The slider gives every answer the same number of slices, from 1 to 8 of each, so the chances stay equal. More slices only make the spin look busier.

Can I see how many times yes and no came up?

Yes. A big scoreboard at the top of the Options tab counts every Yes, No and Maybe. It is saved in your browser until you press Reset counts. The Results tab also lists every spin in order.

Can I change the answers to something other than yes and no?

Not on this page. The answers here are fixed to Yes, No and an optional Maybe. For your own choices, use the picker wheel on the homepage and type any entries you like.

Do I need an account or an app to spin?

No. The wheel runs in your web browser, it is free, and there is nothing to install or sign up for.
