What this random country generator does

This random country generator is a country picker wheel with 195 countries already loaded: the 193 United Nations member states plus Palestine and Vatican City. Spin it and you get one country, shown with its flag and its continent. It is for anyone who needs a country without choosing it themselves: teachers, quiz hosts, travelers with no plan yet, and writers or artists looking for a prompt.

There is nothing to type. The list is built in, sorted from A to Z, and ready to spin.

How to spin for a country

      1. Press the Spin button in the center of the wheel. Clicking the wheel or pressing Ctrl + Enter works too.
      2. Wait for the wheel to stop. The pointer on the right side marks the winning slice.
      3. Read the result. You see the country name, its flag and its continent.
      4. Choose “Done” to keep that country on the wheel, “Remove it” so it cannot come up again, or “Spin again” for another pick.

One honest note: with all 195 countries on the wheel, each slice is too thin to hold a label. You see a ring of colors and no names. The result always shows the full name. If you want readable names on the wheel itself, filter to one continent.

Filter the country picker wheel by continent

Open the Options tab. You will find six continent chips, all checked at the start. Uncheck the ones you do not want.

      • Africa: 54 countries
      • Asia: 48 countries
      • Europe: 44 countries
      • North America: 23 countries, including Central America and the Caribbean
      • Oceania: 14 countries
      • South America: 12 countries

You can keep more than one checked. Europe plus South America gives you a 56-country wheel, for example. Every country sits under exactly one continent here, so Russia is listed under Europe and Turkey under Asia.

You can switch continents at any time. Countries you have removed stay off the wheel until you restore them.

      Choose single countries

Below the chips, open “Choose items” for a checklist of every country in your continents. Search for a name, untick the countries you want to skip, or use Select all and Clear all to start from a full or empty list. Clear all and then tick a handful works well for a shortlist of trip ideas.

      Flags on the wheel

In the Settings tab, under Result, switch on “Show pictures on the wheel”. Each slice then shows the country’s flag in place of its name. With all 195 countries the flags are tiny, so filter to one continent or a short list to see them clearly.

      Ways to use it

      Travel ideas

Filter to a continent you could realistically reach, spin three times, and compare the results. The wheel knows nothing about your budget, but it is good at suggesting places you would not have thought of.

      Classroom geography

Open full screen and put the wheel on the board. Spin, then ask the class to find the country on a map or name one of its neighbors. For country reports, turn on “Remove each winner automatically” in Settings so every student gets a different country.

      Trivia practice

Spin on your own screen, read the country name aloud, and have players name the continent before you reveal it. The Results tab keeps a numbered log of every pick, so you can review the round afterward.

      Is the pick fair?

Yes. The winner is drawn with your browser’s cryptographic random generator (crypto.getRandomValues) before the animation plays. The spin only shows a result that is already decided. No country is weighted, so every country left on the wheel has the same chance.

The tool is free and needs no account. Your continent choices and settings are remembered in your browser’s local storage, and the share button under the wheel gives you a link that carries them.

Staying inside the United States? Use the random state generator. To test how many flags you recognize, try the country flag quiz.

      Frequently asked questions

How many countries are on the random country generator?

There are 195: the 193 United Nations member states plus Palestine and Vatican City. Territories and dependencies are not on the wheel.

Can I pick a random country from just one continent?

Yes. Open the Options tab and uncheck the continents you do not want. You can leave a single continent checked or mix several, such as Europe and Asia.

Why are there no country names on the wheel when I open it?

With all 195 countries selected, each slice is too thin to hold a label, so the wheel shows colors only. The result still gives you the full name, the flag and the continent. Filter to one continent and the names appear on the slices.

How do I stop the same country from coming up twice?

Choose 'Remove it' in the result box, or turn on 'Remove each winner automatically' in the Settings tab. Removed countries stay off the wheel until you press the Restore button in the Options tab.

Which continent are Russia and Turkey listed under?

Every country sits under exactly one continent on this wheel. Russia is listed under Europe, and Turkey is listed under Asia along with Cyprus, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia and Kazakhstan. Central America and the Caribbean are counted as North America.

Is the country wheel free to use?

Yes. There is no account and no limit on spins. It runs in your browser and remembers your continent choices and settings in local storage.
