A random number generator you can watch

This random number generator picks one whole number from any range you set. Instead of flashing a result on the screen, it spins a wheel, so a class, a raffle crowd or a game table can all watch the number land. It starts at 1 to 100, and you can change that to anything from a simple 1 to 2 coin flip up to a range of one million numbers.

The random number generator wheel is free, needs no account, and remembers your range in this browser for next time.

How to pick a random number

    1. Open the Options tab and type a Minimum and a Maximum. Negative numbers work, and if you enter the two in the wrong order the tool swaps them for you.
    2. Optional: set a Step, or list any numbers you want left out in the Numbers to skip box.
    3. Press Spin in the center of the wheel, click the wheel itself, or press Ctrl + Enter.
    4. Read your number in the result box. Choose Done to finish, Remove it to take that number out of play, or Spin again for another draw.

    Options that change the draw

    No repeats

Switch on “No repeats” and each number can come up only once. Every drawn number leaves the range until you press the “Put drawn numbers back” button. Drawn numbers are tracked for your current visit, so reloading the page puts them all back.

    Step

The Step box sets the gap between numbers, counting up from your minimum. Set 0 to 100 with a step of 5 and the wheel only holds 0, 5, 10 and so on up to 100.

    Numbers to skip

Type single numbers separated by commas, and use a hyphen for a run. For example, 4, 13, 20-25 removes eight numbers from the range. This is handy for raffle tickets that were never sold.

    Build it digit by digit

Under Mode, choose “Build it digit by digit” and pick 2 to 6 digits. The wheel then holds 0 to 9, and each spin fills in the next digit from left to right in a row of boxes. When the last box is filled, the full number is shown and the next spin starts a new one. “First digit cannot be 0” is on by default, so a 4 digit number never starts with 0. Press Start a new number to clear the boxes at any time.

Large ranges on the number picker wheel

With 100 numbers or fewer, the number picker wheel gives every number its own slice. Past that point the slices would be too thin to read, so the tool changes its method. It draws the winner from the full range first, then builds a wheel of 24 sample numbers that includes the winner and spins to it. The sample is new on every spin. A number that is not on the wheel right now has the same chance as any other on the next spin.

    Results

The Results tab counts how often each number has come up and keeps an ordered log you can copy or download as a CSV file or an image.

    Ways to use it

    • Raffles and giveaways. Set the range to match your ticket numbers, skip the unsold ones, and turn on No repeats for second and third prizes.
    • Classrooms. Give each student a number and spin to see who answers next or presents first.
    • Tabletop games. Lost a die? Use 1 to 6, 1 to 20, or whatever odd range the rulebook asks for.
    • Number calling. Set 1 to 75 with No repeats and use the Results log as your call sheet.

    How random is it?

Each number is drawn with your browser’s cryptographic random generator (crypto.getRandomValues), and every number in play has the same chance. The draw happens before the wheel moves. The spin only reveals it.

That is strong enough for games, raffles and classroom draws. It is not certified for regulated lotteries, and you should not use it to create passwords or security keys.

Need a letter instead of a number? Try the random letter generator. If you would rather draw from names than from ticket numbers, paste your list into the random name picker.

    Frequently asked questions

Is this random number generator truly random?

Each number is drawn with your browser's cryptographic random generator, and every number in play has the same chance. That is strong enough for games, raffles and classroom draws. It is not certified for regulated lotteries and should not be used to create passwords or security keys.

What is the largest range I can use?

Any whole numbers work, including negatives, as long as the range holds no more than one million numbers. If you enter a wider range, the tool keeps the first million values counting up from your minimum and shows a note saying so.

How do I draw numbers without repeats?

Switch on No repeats in the Options tab. Each number you draw leaves the range, and the Put drawn numbers back button returns them all when you want to start over.

Why does the wheel not show every number in my range?

Thousands of slices would be too thin to read. When more than 100 numbers are in play, the winner is drawn from the full range first, and the wheel then shows 24 sample numbers that include it.

Can I leave certain numbers out of the draw?

Yes. Type them in the Numbers to skip box, separated by commas, and use a hyphen for a run of numbers, for example 4, 13, 20-25.

Can it pick decimals or several numbers at once?

No. It draws one whole number per spin. To get several, turn on No repeats and spin again, and the Results tab will list your numbers in the order they came up. For a number with a set count of digits, use the Build it digit by digit mode.
