A random date generator with a range you control

This random date generator picks one calendar day between two dates you choose. Set a start, set an end, decide which days of the week count, and spin. It helps when you need a day that nobody picked by hand: a surprise outing, a spot check, a deadline for a challenge, or sample dates for a spreadsheet.

When you first open the page, the range runs from today to one year from today.

How to pick a random date

    1. In the Options tab, set the From and To dates. Past dates work too. If From is later than To, the tool swaps them.
    2. Under “Days that count”, untick any days of the week you want to rule out.
    3. Check the line below the chips. It tells you how many possible dates are in play.
    4. Press Spin in the wheel center, click the wheel, or press Ctrl + Enter.
    5. Read the result. By default it shows the full date with its weekday, such as Saturday, March 14, 2026.

From the result box you can choose Done or Spin again.

    Options that shape the result

    Days that count

There are seven chips, Mon through Sun, and all are on by default. Turn off Sat and Sun to get working days only. Leave a single chip on if you need, say, a random Tuesday. If you untick everything, no dates match and the tool tells you so.

    Date format

The Date format menu sets how the result is written. Pick the long form with the weekday in US or day-first order, March 14, 2026 or Mar 14, 2026, the ISO form 2026-03-14, US style with slashes or dashes (03/14/2026, 03-14-2026), day first with slashes or dashes (14/03/2026, 14-03-2026), or 14 March 2026. The slices on the wheel keep the short form so they stay readable.

    Extra dates

Type dates in the Extra dates box, one per line as YEAR-MONTH-DAY, such as 2026-12-24. They join the range, and a date already in the range is not counted twice. Switch on “Use only the dates I list” to ignore From and To and spin only your own dates. Your list still follows the Days that count chips, and any line that is not a date is skipped.

    Long ranges

A year holds too many days to print on one wheel. With 60 dates or fewer, every date gets its own slice. With more than 60, the tool draws the winning date from the full list first. It then shows a wheel of 24 sample dates that includes the winner and spins to it. Every date in your range has the same chance, whether or not it appears on the wheel.

Ranges can run to about 100 years. The tool counts up to 36,600 days from the earlier date and ignores anything after that.

    What is remembered

Your range, weekday choices, format and extra dates are saved in this browser, so the page opens the way you left it. The Results tab logs each date you draw, counts any repeats, and lets you copy the list or download it.

    Ways to use it

    • Date night or a day trip. Set the next three months, keep Fri, Sat and Sun, and let the wheel choose the day.
    • Team events. Limit the chips to Mon through Fri so the pick lands on a workday.
    • Spot checks. Pick an unannounced day for an inventory count, a fire drill or a quality review.
    • Test data. Need a handful of believable dates for a spreadsheet, a form or a demo? Spin a few times, then use Copy or CSV in the Results tab.
    • Writing and trivia prompts. Pick a random date in a past decade and look up what happened that day.

    Is every date equally likely?

Yes. The winner is drawn with your browser’s cryptographic random generator before the wheel starts to move, and each date that passes your weekday filter counts exactly once.

Each spin is independent, so the same date can come up again. In a long range that is rare, and the Results tab makes a repeat easy to spot.

To pick a number of days, weeks or anything else you can count, use the random number generator. If the date is settled and the real question is whether to go at all, the yes or no wheel can answer that.

    Frequently asked questions

How far apart can the two dates be?

Up to about 100 years. The tool counts at most 36,600 days forward from the earlier date, and anything after that point is left out of the draw.

Can I pick only weekdays or only weekends?

Yes. Under Days that count, untick Sat and Sun for weekdays only, or leave just those two on for weekends. You can also leave a single day on to get, for example, a random Friday.

Can I generate dates in the past?

Yes. Set From and To to any days the date field accepts, past or future. If the first date is later than the second, the tool swaps them.

Does every date have the same chance?

Yes. Each date that passes your weekday filter counts once. When more than 60 dates are possible, the winner is drawn from the full list first and the wheel shows 24 sample dates that include it.

Does it pick a time of day as well?

No. It picks calendar dates only. If you also need an hour, you can spin the random number generator with a range of 0 to 23.

What format is the result shown in?

You choose. The Date format menu has ten options, from the default long form 'Saturday, March 14, 2026' to shorter forms such as 2026-03-14, 03/14/2026, 03-14-2026, 14/03/2026 and '14 March 2026'.
