A random Pokemon generator for all 1025 Pokemon

This random Pokemon generator puts every Pokemon from the National Pokedex on one wheel. Press Spin and it picks one at random, then shows the name, the Pokedex number and the generation it comes from. You can spin through the whole list or narrow it down to the generations you care about.

It is built for the moments when choosing yourself would be boring or unfair: starting a challenge run, picking something to draw, settling an argument about favorites, or running a guessing game with friends.

      How to use it

      1. Leave all nine generations on, or open the Options tab and switch some off.
      2. Press Spin, click the wheel, or press Ctrl + Enter.
      3. Read the result. The box shows the Pokemon’s name, its Pokedex number and its generation.
      4. Choose Done to keep it on the wheel, Remove it to take it off, or Spin again for another pick.

      Filtering by generation

The Generations chips map to the Pokedex blocks of each era: Gen 1 is numbers 1 to 151, Gen 2 is 152 to 251, and so on up to Gen 9, which ends at 1025. Turn off a chip and those Pokemon leave the wheel at once. Pokemon you have already removed stay off the wheel when you change chips, so you can switch eras halfway through a challenge without losing track.

A single generation also makes the wheel readable. With Gen 1 alone you get 151 slices, and names start to fit on them. With every generation on, the slices are too thin for labels, but the result box always shows the name in full.

      Ideas for using it

      • Randomizer challenges. Spin six times with Remove each winner automatically turned on and play with only the team the wheel gives you.
      • Drawing prompts. Spin once and draw that Pokemon from memory, then compare with a picture. It is a quick warm up for artists of any level.
      • Guess the Pokemon. Turn on Mystery wheel in Settings so the labels show question marks. One person spins and reads the Pokedex number, and the others guess the name.
      • Picking a favorite of the day. Spin each morning and learn one new Pokemon from a generation you never played.

      Is it fair?

Every pick comes from your browser’s cryptographic random source, and the choice is made before the wheel moves. Rare and legendary Pokemon are no harder or easier to land than any other. The Results tab counts every pick, so you can check over many spins that nothing comes up more often than it should.

For a pick from your own short list instead, use the picker wheel and type the names in. To pick a random character from a fighting game roster, try the Smash Ultimate random picker.

      Frequently asked questions

How many Pokemon are on the wheel?

All 1025 from the National Pokedex, from Bulbasaur at number 1 to Pecharunt at number 1025. Each one appears once, as its base species, without alternate forms or regional variants.

Can I pick a Pokemon from just one generation?

Yes. Use the Generations chips in the Options tab. Turn off the generations you do not want and the wheel rebuilds with only the ones left on. You can keep several generations on at once.

      Is every Pokemon equally likely?

Yes. The winner is drawn with your browser's cryptographic random number generator before the wheel starts moving, and every Pokemon still on the wheel has the same chance. Legendary and starter Pokemon get no extra weight.

Why can I not read the names on the slices?

With hundreds of Pokemon on the wheel, each slice is too thin for a label. Narrow the wheel to one generation and the names become readable. The result box always shows the full name and Pokedex number.

How do I build a team of six with no repeats?

Open Settings and turn on Remove each winner automatically, then spin six times. Each Pokemon leaves the wheel once it is picked, and the Results tab keeps the list in order.

Is this an official Pokemon tool?

No. It is a free fan-made random picker. It does not include game data such as types or stats, only names and Pokedex numbers.
