The random NHL team generator for all 32 clubs
This random NHL team generator puts every NHL team on one wheel. Spin it and you get a team plus the conference and division it plays in, such as “Western Pacific”. Use it to pick a franchise to rebuild in your hockey video game, hand out teams for a playoff pool, or find a club to follow. The 2025-26 alignment is loaded, including the Utah Mammoth, so there is nothing to type.
How to spin for a team
- Open the Options tab and check the conferences and divisions you want. Everything is on at first.
- Press Spin, click the wheel, or press Ctrl + Enter.
- The wheel stops at the pointer. The dialog shows “Your team is”, the full name, and the division.
- Pick Done, Remove it, or Spin again.
Slices print the nickname only, like Kraken or Maple Leafs, so the labels stay readable on a phone.
Conferences and divisions
The league is split like this:
- Eastern Conference: Atlantic (8 teams) and Metropolitan (8 teams)
- Western Conference: Central (8 teams) and Pacific (8 teams)
The Options tab has one row of chips for conference and one for division. A team must match both rows to stay on the wheel.
- Uncheck Western to spin among the 16 Eastern teams.
- Keep only Metropolitan to get the eight Metro clubs, from the Hurricanes to the Capitals.
- Keep Atlantic and Pacific to get 16 teams from opposite sides of the map.
Because each division belongs to one conference, some mixes leave nothing. Western plus Atlantic, for example, gives an empty wheel. Check at least one matching pair.
Ways to use the NHL team wheel
Franchise mode rebuild
Spin, take over whatever team comes up, and live with it. For a harder challenge, spin again until you land on a team you have never played as.
Playoff or season pool
Running a pool with friends? Switch on “Remove each winner automatically”. Each person spins in turn and every team goes to one owner only. With 32 teams, eight friends get four teams each.
Watch party picks
When several games are on the same night, spin for a team and put on its game. Or let each guest spin for a team to cheer for that night.
Beer league jersey night
Planning a theme night where your rec team wears NHL jerseys? With automatic removal on, spin once for each player so no two people get the same club, and copy the list from the Results tab.
Picking a team to follow
New to hockey? Filter to the division closest to you and let the wheel choose your first team.
Fair and transparent
The winning team is drawn with your browser’s cryptographic random generator before the wheel moves, and the animation stops on that slice. No team is weighted. The Results tab tallies every pick and keeps a numbered log you can copy into a group chat.

Frequently asked questions
Which NHL teams are on the wheel?
All 32 teams in the 2025-26 alignment, eight in each of the four divisions. Utah's team is listed as the Utah Mammoth in the Central Division.
How do the conference and division filters work together?
A team stays on the wheel only if both its conference and its division are checked. Atlantic and Metropolitan are Eastern divisions, while Central and Pacific are Western, so keeping Eastern with only Pacific leaves the wheel empty.
What does the result show besides the team name?
The full team name, such as Columbus Blue Jackets, plus a second line with its conference and division, such as Eastern Metropolitan. The slices themselves show the short nickname.
Can I draw teams for a group without repeats?
Yes. Switch on 'Remove each winner automatically' in Settings. Every team you close leaves the wheel, and the Restore button returns them all when the draft is over.
Are some teams more likely than others?
No. Every team still on the wheel has the same chance. The pick is made with the browser's cryptographic random generator before the spin begins.
Can I share my filtered NHL wheel?
Yes. The share button gives you a link that keeps your checked conferences and divisions and any removed teams, so a friend sees the same wheel.
