What the random MLB team generator is for
Thirty clubs is a lot to choose from. The random MLB team generator does the choosing: it spins an MLB team wheel with every club on it and stops on one. The result shows the team and its division, such as “AL Central”, so you know right away which league it plays in.
Use it to start a franchise in MLB The Show, to assign clubs in a group, to pick a game for tonight, or to name the sides for a backyard game.
Three steps to a team
- Start the spin. Press the Spin button in the middle, click the wheel, or use Ctrl + Enter.
- Let it stop. The pointer sits on the right edge of the wheel and marks the winning slice.
- Decide what happens next. “Done” keeps the team on the wheel. “Remove it” takes the team off. “Spin again” starts another spin.
The buttons under the wheel mute the sound, open the share box and switch to full screen. The share link carries your filter choices, so a friend who opens it sees the same set of teams.
League and division filters
In the Options tab, the teams can be narrowed two ways:
- League: AL or NL. Each has 15 clubs.
- Division: East, Central or West.
Inside one group, any checked chip counts. Across the two groups, a team has to match both. So:
- AL only: the 15 American League clubs.
- NL plus West: the five NL West clubs.
- Both leagues plus Central: ten clubs, the AL Central and NL Central together.
Each of the six divisions has five teams, so every single-division wheel is a five-way spin with large slices.
The filters work by group. To switch off one club at a time, use the “Choose items” checklist under the chips. It has a search box, plus Select all and Clear all buttons.
Ways to use the MLB team wheel
Franchise mode in MLB The Show
Let the wheel choose your club and play the hand you are dealt. If you want a rule, filter to the league you know least and spin there.
A draft where nobody shares a club
Go to Settings and switch on “Remove each winner automatically”. Now every result removes that team once you close it. Six friends spinning in turn get six different clubs, and the Results tab keeps a numbered log of the picks. Press Copy in that tab to paste the list into your group chat.
Changing the filters later is fine. Clubs that were already removed stay off the wheel.
Picking a game to watch
On a full night of baseball, spin and watch the game the winning team is playing in.
Backyard and wiffle ball teams
Spin once per side so each team has a club to play as. Use “Remove it” after the first spin so both sides do not get the same one.
A second team to follow
Already have a club? Filter to the other league and spin for a team to follow there.
Is each team equally likely?
Yes. The wheel gives every team the same size slice, and the winner is selected with crypto.getRandomValues, your browser’s cryptographic random generator, before the animation runs. The spin shows the outcome. It does not decide it.
The tool is free, needs no account, and stores your settings and results only in your browser.

Frequently asked questions
How many teams does the random MLB team generator include?
It includes all 30 clubs: 15 in the American League and 15 in the National League. Each league has an East, Central and West division with five teams.
Can I pick only American League or only National League teams?
Yes. The League filter in the Options tab has two chips, AL and NL. Uncheck one and the wheel keeps the 15 clubs from the other league.
How do I spin for just the NL West?
Leave NL checked in the League group and West checked in the Division group, then uncheck the rest. The wheel shows the five NL West teams. The same method works for any of the six divisions.
What does the result tell me besides the team name?
It shows the league and division under the team, written like 'NL Central' or 'AL East'.
How do I run a draft where each person gets a different club?
Switch on 'Remove each winner automatically' in the Settings tab before the first spin. Each club comes off the wheel when its result is closed, so later spins cannot repeat it.
Can I make the spin last longer?
Yes. The spin time slider in Settings goes from 1 to 30 seconds. A longer spin does not change the odds, because the winner is already drawn before the wheel moves.
