Questions that get friends telling stories
This random question generator for friends is built for people who already share a history. Instead of asking about favorite colors, it asks about the two of you or the whole group: “If we were in a band, what would our name be?” or “Who in our group would last the longest on a deserted island?” Answers turn into old stories, inside jokes and plans for the next trip.
There are 56 questions in this deck. All are clean and kind.
How to play with the random question generator for friends
- Sit together, or start a call or group chat.
- Press Next (or the space bar or right arrow key) to draw a question.
- Read it out. Everyone answers, or just the person whose turn it is.
- Press Next for the next one. Previous and the left arrow key go back.
The card counter tells you how many questions are left. Once all 56 are used, the deck reshuffles and tells you so. Start over shuffles right away and clears the Seen so far list.
Three kinds of questions in the deck
About the two of you
How you met, your first impression, a habit of the other person that makes you laugh, three words to describe each other. These work best one on one.
About the group
Who is most likely to become famous, adopt ten pets, or keep a secret. Read one out and let everyone point at the same time.
Plans and what ifs
Trips to take, a business you would start together, a tradition your group should begin. These often end with an actual plan.
When to pull it out
Road trips
The passenger reads questions from a phone. Group questions are perfect here, since everyone in the car can answer.
Birthday dinners
Ask the birthday person five questions from the deck and let the table add their own answers.
Long distance friendships
On a video call, take turns pressing Next and answering. It gives a catch up call a little structure.
Group chat lulls
Copy one question into the chat each morning. People answer when they have a moment.
New friend groups
When a few people have known each other for a few weeks, questions like “What is your favorite way to hang out?” help everyone learn the basics.
Keep it friendly
“Who in our group” questions can land on one person a lot. Rotate who answers first, and laugh with people, not at them. A quick pass is always allowed.
Fair and simple
The order comes from your browser’s cryptographic random generator, so nobody picks the questions in advance. It is free and needs no sign up. Want questions anyone can answer, even strangers? The main random question generator adds a general set. Need to choose who answers first? Spin the random name picker.

Frequently asked questions
How many questions are in the friends deck?

Who are these questions written for?
Friends who already know each other. Many of them ask about you two or your group, like your first impression of each other or who would win a dance battle.
Can we play over text or a group chat?
Yes. Press the copy button next to Next and paste the question into the chat. Everyone replies with their answer.
What if a question feels too personal?
Skip it and press Next. None of the questions are meant to embarrass anyone, but every friend group has its own comfort level.
Do the questions come in a set order?
No. The deck is shuffled at random each time you load the page or press Start over, and no question repeats until all 56 have come up.
