A random number generator 1-8 for eight players
Eight is a common group size: eight friends on game night, eight players in a mini tournament, eight teams in a small league. The random number generator 1-8 gives each of them a fair number with one spin. Use it to set turn order, hand out roles, or draw spots in a bracket of eight.
It is the same as asking someone to pick a number between 1 and 8, except nobody can say the picker had a favorite.
How to draw positions for eight
- Write the bracket or list on paper with lines numbered 1 to 8.
- Open the Options tab and turn on No repeats.
- Each player presses Spin, clicks the wheel, or hits Ctrl + Enter.
- Write their name on the line that matches their number.
- Keep going until all eight are placed. The last player gets the last number left.
For a bracket of eight, round one pairs neighboring lines: 1 against 2, 3 against 4, 5 against 6, 7 against 8.
Options for an eight person draw
No repeats
Each number comes up once until you press “Put drawn numbers back”. Without it, two players could land on the same spot.
Remove each winner automatically
Turn this on in the Settings tab when one person is running the draw. Numbers leave the wheel right after they land.
Numbers to skip
If you have only seven players, skip 8 and treat that spot as a bye.

Where an 8 way spin helps
- Mini tournaments for ping pong, chess or video games.
- Turn order for an eight player party game.
- Secret roles, where each number matches a card or job.
- Carpool or seating plans for eight people.
Fair for every player
Every player starts with a 1 in 8 chance of each spot, 12.5 percent. Your browser’s cryptographic random generator makes the pick before the wheel turns, so no spot can be aimed for.
For teams instead of single players, the random team generator splits a list of names into groups. A bigger field? The random number generator 1-16 is set up for 16 teams.
Frequently asked questions
How do I draw bracket spots for eight players?
Number the eight bracket lines from top to bottom. Turn on No repeats, then let each player spin once. The number they get is their line, and lines 1 and 2, 3 and 4, 5 and 6, and 7 and 8 meet in round one.
What is the chance of getting any single number from 1 to 8?
On the first spin it is 1 in 8, which is 12.5 percent. With No repeats on, the odds for the numbers that remain go up as others are drawn.
One player left before the draw finished. What now?
Type their number in the Numbers to skip box so the wheel stops landing on it. That spot becomes a bye in your bracket.
Can I take numbers out without clicking Remove it each time?
Yes. In the Settings tab, switch on Remove each winner automatically. Every number that lands then leaves the wheel on its own.
How do I keep a record of who got which number?
The Results tab logs every spin in order. The Copy button gives you that list, and you can write each player's name next to their number.
