Random number generator 1-30 for a 30 day challenge

A 30 day challenge is easier to stick with when you do not know what tomorrow brings. The random number generator 1-30 lets you number 30 tasks, workouts, drawing prompts or acts of kindness, then spin each day to see which one is next. It is free, runs in your browser, and gives every number an equal chance.

It is also a simple way to pick a number between 1 and 30, or a day in a 30 day month.

    Set up your challenge

    1. Write a list of 30 tasks and number them. For example: 1 = 20 squats, 2 = read for 15 minutes, 3 = no sugar today, 4 = call a friend, and so on to 30.
    2. Each day, open the page and tap Spin.
    3. Do the task for the number in the result box.
    4. Add that number to the Numbers to skip box. Separate numbers with commas, for example 4, 17, 22.

By day 30 only one number is left, and the challenge ends where it should.

Two ways to track used tasks

The skip box, for one spin a day

The skip list is saved in this browser, so it keeps your progress if you close the tab. This is the better choice when you spin once a day for a month.

No repeats, for planning in one sitting

No repeats removes each number as it lands, but only for the current visit. Spin all 30 at once, copy the order from the Results tab, and you have the whole month mapped out.

    Results log

The Results tab keeps the last spins in this browser with a tally beside them. It doubles as a record of which day got which task.

Challenge ideas that fit 30 numbers

    • Fitness. Thirty different exercises, one a day.
    • Art. Thirty drawing prompts for a daily sketch.
    • Decluttering. Thirty spots in the house to clear out.
    • Reading or writing. Thirty prompts for a daily journal.

    Equal chances each day

On day one, each task has a 1 in 30 chance, about 3.3 percent. The pick comes from your browser’s cryptographic random generator before the wheel turns. As you skip finished tasks, the odds for the rest rise, and the last task left is certain.

For a month with 31 days, use the random number generator 1-31. If you prefer to keep repeats out without touching the skip box, the random number generator no repeats starts with No repeats switched on.

    Frequently asked questions

How do I run a random 30 day challenge with this?

Write 30 tasks and number them 1 to 30. Each day, spin once and do the task that matches the number. After a task is done, add its number to the Numbers to skip box so it cannot come up again.

Why use the skip box instead of No repeats for a month long plan?

No repeats only remembers drawn numbers for the current visit, so a page reload puts them back. The skip box is saved in your browser, so it keeps your used numbers from one day to the next.

Can I plan all 30 days at once?

Yes. Turn on No repeats and spin 30 times in one sitting. The Results log lists the order, and the Copy button puts it on your clipboard for a notes app or calendar.

What is the chance of a particular task coming up?

On the first day each task has a 1 in 30 chance, about 3.3 percent. As used tasks are skipped, the odds for the rest go up.

Can I use it to pick a day in a 30 day month?

Yes. April, June, September and November have 30 days, so a spin from 1 to 30 gives a fair pick of a date in those months.
