A random name generator for games and gamer tags

This random name generator for games makes usernames and gamer tags you can copy and use right away. Each tag joins two words, such as an adjective and an animal, and you choose how it is written. Use it when you set up a new account, start a fresh save, or want a name your friends will remember. It is free and runs in your browser.

    How to use it

    1. Pick a style in the Style menu.
    2. Choose whether to add numbers.
    3. Set how many gamer tags you want, from 1 to 50.
    4. Press Generate, then tap the copy icon next to the one you like. Copy all grabs the whole list.

Not feeling any of them? Press Generate again. Each batch is new and never repeats a tag.

    Styles and numbers

Four ways to write a tag

    • ShadowFalcon: both words joined, each with a capital. Easy to read.
    • shadow_falcon: lowercase with an underscore. Good where capitals are not kept.
    • shadowfalcon: all lowercase, no gaps. Short and clean.
    • xXShadowFalconXx: the old school wrapper, for fun or for nostalgia.

As an example, the same pair can come out as FrostyNarwhal, frosty_narwhal_42 or xXFrostyNarwhal42Xx, depending on the style and the number switch.

    Add numbers

With “Add numbers” on, every tag ends in a random number from 1 to 999. In the underscore style the number gets its own underscore. Numbers make a tag more likely to be free. Turn the switch off if you want just the words.

    Before you claim a tag

    Check that it is available

The generator does not check any game or platform. Type your pick into the sign up or rename screen and see if it is taken. Copy five or six favorites first so you have backups.

    Check the rules

Platforms differ. Some limit length, and some do not allow underscores or certain characters. If a tag is rejected, try another style of the same pair.

    Keep personal info out

Do not use your real name, birth year, age, school or town in a tag. Random word pairs are a safe default because they say nothing about you. If you want a number, use the random one, not your birthday.

    When to use it

A new account or a fresh start

Starting a game you have never played, or leaving an old embarrassing tag behind? Generate 50 and say a few out loud.

    Naming characters, pets and ships

Many games ask you to name a character, a mount or a vehicle. Turn numbers off and take a name that sounds like it belongs in the world.

    Squad or clan names

Some groups like matching tags. Pick one style, keep the second word the same, and change the first word for each member.

    Streaming and video handles

The camel case style reads well on screen and is easy for viewers to spell.

    Random by design

Words and numbers are picked with your browser’s cryptographic random generator. Your style, number switch and count are saved in local storage for next time.

Need a name for a whole crew? Try the team name generator. Can’t decide between two tags? Settle it with a coin flip.

    Frequently asked questions

What styles of gamer tag can I make?

Four: joined words with capitals (ShadowFalcon), lowercase with underscores (shadow_falcon), all lowercase (shadowfalcon), and the classic xX wrapper (xXShadowFalconXx). Pick one in the Style menu.

What does the Add numbers switch do?

It adds a random number from 1 to 999 to each tag. Numbers help when the plain word pair is already taken on the platform you play on. Turn the switch off for clean tags.

Is a generated tag guaranteed to be available?

No. The generator does not connect to any game or platform, so it cannot see which names are taken. Try your favorite in the sign up screen and keep a few backups ready.

How many different tags can it create?

There are 123 first words and 126 second words, which makes 15,498 word pairs before numbers. With numbers turned on, each pair can take any of 999 endings.

Should I put my real name or birth year in a gamer tag?

It is safer not to. A tag is public, so leave out your real name, age, birth year, school and town. A random tag like the ones here gives nothing away.
