Random Emoji Generator
Random emojis by category, ready to copy.
What the random emoji generator does
Press Generate and you get a handful of random emojis, each with its short name printed underneath, such as โstar-struckโ or โfried shrimpโ. This random emoji generator is for people who want a prompt they did not choose: a writing challenge, a drawing idea, a guessing game, or just a mix of symbols for a post. It is free, runs in your browser, and needs no account.
The pool holds 858 emojis from Unicode Emoji 13.0 or earlier. Sticking to older emojis means almost every phone and computer can show them, so you are unlikely to see empty boxes.
How to get random emojis
- Set โHow many emojisโ to any number from 1 to 20. The default is 5.
- Check the categories you want, or leave all eight checked.
- Press Generate. The emojis appear in a row with their names.
- Press Copy emojis to put the whole batch on your clipboard.
Press Generate again for a fresh set. Your count and category choices are saved in this browser, so they are waiting for you next time.
The eight categories
Each chip filters the pool. Here is how many emojis sit in each one:
- Smileys: 93
- People: 101
- Animals: 134
- Food: 110
- Activities: 75
- Travel: 114
- Objects: 138
- Symbols: 93
Uncheck what you do not need. Keep only Food for a menu game, or only Animals and Travel for a story about a road trip with a pet.
A note on how emojis look
The generator picks characters, not pictures. Your phone, tablet or computer then draws each one with its own artwork. A โgrinning faceโ on an iPhone is not pixel for pixel the same as on Android or Windows. When you paste a set into a group chat, everyone sees the same emojis, but the style may differ from yours.
Ways to use random emojis
Emoji story challenge
Generate five emojis and tell a short story that uses all of them in order. It works as a writing warm-up in class or as a game at the dinner table.
Guess the phrase
One player generates three emojis and keeps them hidden, then makes up a phrase or title the emojis could stand for. The others guess from the emojis alone.
Drawing prompts
Pick two emojis and combine them in one sketch. A cactus and a rocket, or an owl and a toothbrush, makes for a strange and fun drawing.
Captions and posts
Need a little decoration for a caption or a username? Copy a random batch and keep the ones you like.
Icebreakers
Each person in a meeting generates one emoji and says how it matches their week. It is quick and gets people talking.
Fair and random
Emojis are drawn with your browserโs cryptographic random generator, so each emoji in the checked categories has the same chance. Within one batch nothing repeats. Across batches the same emoji can come back, just like any random draw.

Frequently asked questions
How many emojis can the random emoji generator pick from?
The pool has 858 emojis in eight categories: Smileys, People, Animals, Food, Activities, Travel, Objects and Symbols. The hint under the category chips always shows the current total.
How many emojis can I get at once?
Anywhere from 1 to 20 per press of Generate. The default is 5. Every emoji in one batch is different.
Why does an emoji look different on my friend's phone?
Each platform draws its own emoji artwork, so the same character can look a little different on an iPhone, an Android phone, a Windows PC or a Mac. The meaning and the name stay the same.
Can I get only food or only animal emojis?
Yes. Uncheck every category chip except the one you want. If you uncheck all of them, the generator draws from the whole pool again.
Are flags included?
No. The pool covers the eight categories listed on the page and does not include country flags.
What does the Copy emojis button copy?
It copies the emojis from the current batch as one line with no spaces or names, ready to paste into a message, a caption or a game.
