A chore wheel that ends the argument

Nobody wants to clean the bathroom, and nobody wants to be the one who assigns it. A chore wheel takes the decision out of anyone’s hands. Each person spins, gets a job, and that job leaves the wheel so it cannot land on someone else. The default wheel has eight everyday chores, and there are ready lists for kids, roommates and a weekly deep clean. It is free and runs in the browser.

    How to hand out chores

    1. Use the eight starting chores, tap a quick list, or type your own chores in the Entries tab, one per line.
    2. The first person presses Spin, clicks the wheel, or presses Ctrl + Enter.
    3. The dialog says “Your chore is” and names the job.
    4. Press Done. The chore comes off the wheel.
    5. The next person spins from what is left.

When every chore has been handed out, the wheel is empty. Press the Restore button under the list, which reads something like “Restore 8 removed”, to bring them all back for the next round.

    Built for fair rotation

    Automatic removal is already on

Most wheels on this site keep every entry after a spin. This one does not. “Remove each winner automatically” starts switched on, because a chore should go to one person only. You can switch it off in Settings if you prefer.

    Quick lists

    • Kids: Make your bed, Set the table, Tidy toys, Feed the pet, Fold towels, Water plants, Sort socks, Wipe the table.
    • Roommates: Kitchen, Bathroom, Living room, Trash and recycling, Floors, Groceries.
    • Weekly deep clean: Fridge, Oven, Windows, Baseboards, Sheets, Mop floors, Dust shelves, Car.

Tapping a quick list replaces the current chores, so edit freely afterward.

Weights for chores that are not equal

Cleaning the oven is not the same as watering plants. Press “Weights, labels and colors” and lower the weight of the heavy jobs, or raise the light ones. With fewer chores than people, add a “Free pass” line and give it a low weight.

Ways families and roommates use it

    Sunday chore draw

Gather everyone after breakfast. Each person spins twice. Write the results on the fridge, or copy them from the Results tab into the family chat.

    Kids picking their own jobs

A job that came from a spin feels less like an order from a parent. Load the Kids list and let each child spin. Younger kids like the confetti and the sound.

    Shared apartments

Load the Roommates list, spin once each, and save it as a named wheel. Next week, open it from saved wheels, restore the chores and spin again.

    One bonus chore a day

Turn off automatic removal, load the deep clean list, and spin once a day for one extra task. Over time every job comes up.

Fair for everyone in the house

The chore is picked by your browser’s cryptographic random generator before the wheel turns, so nobody can time a click to dodge the dishes. With equal weights each remaining chore has the same chance. The Results tab lists every assignment in order.

To put people into cleanup crews instead of single jobs, use the random team generator. For a quick call on who goes first, try the wheel of names.

    Frequently asked questions

Why does a chore disappear after I spin?

On this wheel 'Remove each winner automatically' is switched on from the start. When you close the result, that chore leaves the wheel so the next person cannot get the same job.

How do I put all the chores back for next week?

Press the Restore button in the Entries tab. It shows how many chores were removed, for example 'Restore 8 removed', and puts every one of them back on the wheel.

Can I stop chores from being removed?

Yes. Turn off 'Remove each winner automatically' in the Settings tab. Chores then stay on the wheel after each spin, which suits picking one bonus job a day.

Are there chore lists for kids?

Yes. The Kids quick list has eight jobs such as Make your bed, Set the table, Tidy toys and Sort socks. There are also Roommates and Weekly deep clean lists.

Can I make a big chore less likely to come up?

Yes. Press 'Weights, labels and colors' and lower that chore's weight. Its slice gets smaller and so does its chance. Raise a weight above 1 to make a chore more likely.

Will my chore list still be there tomorrow?

Yes. The wheel is saved in your browser automatically. You can also save several named wheels, such as one for weekdays and one for Saturdays, with the saved wheels button.
